How to Keep Your Heart Open in Crisis
Jun 02, 2020
A message from Yuan Tze, April 2020
How do we keep our hearts open when the world is in turmoil? You see all the suffering and you feel the pain.
‘It is a dilemma’, you may think, ‘when I open my heart to the world, I also invite vulnerability and suffering to myself’.
Let’s examine this further.
What would your reaction be at this time?
- Do you feel overwhelmed and anxious?
- Do you feel angry and wanting to blame?
- Do you feel hopeless and fall into despair?
These reactions may seem reasonable or even ‘natural’.
However, in looking closer, do you see the possibility that the pattern of Avoiding and Hiding could play a part in it, especially in directing us to find ‘refuge’ in patterns which lead to these common reactions?
Why can’t we face reality?
Because it is difficult and we need to close our hearts and divert ourselves in order to feel better and safer. Patterns of all sorts have been formed to cater to this need.
Is there a different route to deal with reality? Yes, it is the route of wisdom. The shortcut to this route is to go back to the heart, because your heart can channel the wisdom of your True Self.
There are two things you can do to make this happen:
1) Be in a five Xin state (trust, openness, love, gratitude and Gongjing/true respect)
2) Keep your Jue Cha (awareness from a deep state) alive.
When the wisdom comes through, you will see reality clearly, especially the causes and effects. Nothing will come as a surprise to you and the mindset of ‘this shouldn’t have happened’ will not have a place. Your heart will remain open and acceptance will be the most natural response to everything.
More importantly, when causes and effects can be seen clearly, you will be able to take the action that will not only relieve the suffering but also truly address problems at the root level.
Humanity is facing enormous challenges. These challenges will not lessen unless we can see the necessity for fundamental change to human consciousness and take due action to bring it about.
Before this change takes place, more and more catastrophic events can be expected on all levels of society and nature.
It is, therefore, essential to establish a wisdom-guided route to operate beyond the survival mode and work for a real solution.
Let's open our hearts to the whole of human family, every living being and our Mother Earth.
May five Xin and wisdom grow and wellbeing prevail."
